Angel Mendoza
Angel Mendoza of Melrose Park, a student in Triton College’s Barber Program, has long been inspired by his uncle, a professional barber.
“My uncle has always shown me the ins and outs of being a barber,” said Mendoza. “He told me that there will be good days and bad days, slow days, fast days and very busy days. In the end, work hard and keep improving your craft.”
Initially unsure about his career path, Mendoza felt enlightened after meeting with a Triton counselor who introduced him to the college’s Barber Program. Inspired by his uncle’s advice, he realized barbering was his calling.
“I decided to jump in and not look back,” he explained.
At Triton, Mendoza is learning more than just cutting hair. He’s acquiring knowledge about sanitation, disinfecting and cleaning equipment. He’s grateful for this well-rounded education and looking forward to learning how to do graphics, hair coloring, and braiding.
Looking ahead, Mendoza plans to complete the program, obtain his barbering license and open his own shop, hopefully in his hometown of Melrose Park. To further his goals, he also hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in business to help grow and manage his future clientele.
“Triton’s program is cost effective and will not only help you grow your knowledge, but also your future clientele,” he said.
